Day 19: Human

An exclusive song from the 2003 comedy film Stuck on You in which Cher made a hilarious cameo playing herself. Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear stars in the movie as conjoined twins with rather different ambitions in life, where one wants to become a Hollywood actor and the other prefers a quiet life. A silly yet very charming movie!

I don't see right, I don't see wrong
In anything I've done, In where I've gone.
And I'm only human and yes I've made mistakes
I wish that I could foresee what I'm doing wrong, get some breaks.

Through a doorway I'm calling, down a long road I'm walking
Like an eagle I'm soaring up so high.

You can see it in my hands
You can see it in my face
I'm chasing passion down a one way street.
But I'm in command of lost control
And I'll tell you one thing's certain, that I'll never fake it for anyone.

Run to a place you'll never hide, to a place you hold so tight and you'll try....

And I'm only human and yes I've made mistakes

Day 18: Welcome to Burlesque

The opening act at the Burlesque Lounge!

Show a little more
Show a little less
Add a little smoke
Welcome to Burlesque

Everything you dream of

But never can possess
Nothing what it seems
Welcome to Burlesque

Oh, everyone is buying

Put your money in my hand
If you got a little extra
Well, give it to the band.

You may not the guilty

But your ready to confess
Tell me what you need
Welcome to Burlesque

You can dream of Coco

Do it at your risk
The tripets grant you mercy
But not your every wish
Jesse keeps you guessing
So cool and statuesque
Behave yourself says Georgia
Welcome to Burlesque

Oh, everyone is buying

Put your money in my hand
If you want a little extra
Well, you know where I am
Something very dark is playing with your mind
It's not the end of days, it's just a bump and grind

Show a little more

Show a little less
Add a little smoke
Welcome to Burlesque

Day 17: Half-Breed

Another essential song from the early years... Cher brings back the feathers and Native American gown on each of her latest concert tours to cover this 1973 #1 hit!

My father married a pure Cherokee
My mother's people were ashamed of me
The Indians said I was white by law
The white man always called me "Indian Squaw"

CHORUS:
Half-breed, that's all I ever heard
Half-breed, how I learned to hate the word
Half-breed, she's no good they warned
Both sides were against me since the day I was born

We never settled, went from town to town

When you're not welcome you don't hang around
The other children always laughed at me
"Give her a feather, she's a Cherokee"

Chorus

We weren't accepted and I felt ashamed

Nineteen I left them, tell me who's to blame
My life since then has been from man to man
But I can't run away from what I am

Chorus 2x

Day 16: One by One

A favorite from the 1996 album It's a Man's World...

When you pray with every breath
You know, that is free
As the love you have
Where does it end
It's too much for me to take

There's no peace

You close your eyes
I'm all out of truth
I'm out of alibis
Where does it end
It's too much for me to take

Chorus:
We're gonna love one another
Till morning comes
Seek the sweet salvation
For what we've done
Give up resisting one by one
One by one
He gives a new kind of meaning

To what I am
I know that I could never
Love any other man
One of these days you'll understand
Understand

And his face his heaven sent

He makes me believe there
Must be something else
Where does it end
It's too much for me to take

I can feel the need in you

There isn't a thing
I won't let you do
Where does it end
It's too much for me to take

Chorus ...

We're gonna love one another

Till morning comes
Sweet salvation
For what we've done
Give up resisting one by one
One by one

We're gonna love one another

We're gonna love one another
Give up resisting one by one

Day 15: Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves

Cher's very first chart-topper single as a solo act gets you back to 1971! It is still a regular among the Hits Medley on her latest tours to this date...

I was born in the wagon of a travelin' show
My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
Papa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good

CHORUS:
Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us gypsies, tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

Picked up a boy just south of Mobile
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty-one
Rode with us to Memphis
And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done

Chorus

I never had schoolin' but he taught me well
With his smooth southern style
Three months later, I'm a gal in trouble
And I haven't seen him for a while
I haven't seen him for a while

She was born in the wagon of a travelin' show
Her mama had to dance for the money they'd throw
Grandpa'd do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good

Chorus

Day 14: You Haven't Seen the Last of Me

The Golden Globe winning song of 2011! "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" was penned by Diane Warren for the movie Burlesque, which was Cher's long awaited comeback to the silver screen. It also hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, making our favorite diva the only one to behold a #1 single in each of the last six decades!

Feeling broken
Barely holding on
But there's just something so strong
Somewhere inside me
And I am down but I'll get up again
Don't count me out just yet

I've been brought down to my knees

And I've been pushed way past the point of breaking
But I can take it
I'll be back
Back on my feet
This is far from over
You haven't seen the last of me
You haven't seen the last of me

They can say that

I won't stay around
But I'm gonna stand my ground
You're not gonna stop me
You don't know me
You don't know who I am
Don't count me out so fast

I've been brought down to my knees

And I've been pushed way past the point of breaking
But I can take it
I'll be back
Back on my feet
This is far from over
You haven't seen the last of me

There will be no fade out

This is not the end
I'm down now
But I'll be standing tall again
Times are hard but
I was built tough
I'm gonna show you all what I'm made of

I've been brought down to my knees

And I've been pushed way past the point of breaking
But I can take it
I'll be back
Back on my feet
This is far from over
I am far from over
You haven't seen the last of me

No no

I'm not going nowhere
I'm staying right here
Oh no
You won't see me begging
I'm not taking my bow
Can't stop me
It's not the end
You haven't seen the last of me
Oh no
You haven't seen the last of me
You haven't seen the last of me

Day 13: Just Like Jesse James

Today is that cowboy song "with an awful lot of words" as Cher admitted on her Farewell Tour. But we love it for sure! It peaked to #8 on the billboard chart in 1989 despite the lack of a music video to promote it. Too bad because it would have been great to see Cher in a Wild West themed video for that song! What do you think?

You're struttin' into town like you're slingin' a gun
Just a small town dude with a big city attitude
Honey you're lookin' for some trouble tonight
Well alright

You think you're so bad, drive the women folk wild
Shoot 'em all down with the flash of your pearly smile
Honey but you met your match tonight
Oh that's right!

You think you'll knock me off my feet till I'm flat on the floor
Till my heart is crying Indian and I'm beggin' for more
So come on baby, come on baby
Come on baby show me what that loaded gun is for

CHORUS
If you can give it, I can take it
Cause if this heart is gonna break
It's gonna take a lot to break it
I know tonight somebody's gonna win the fight
So if you're so tough come on and prove it
Your heart is down for the count and you know you're gonna lose it
Tonight you're gonna go down in flames just like Jesse James

You're an outlaw lover and I'm after your hide
Well you ain't so strong
Won't be long till your hands are tied
Tonight I'm gonna take you in dead or alive
Thaaat's right
You break the laws of love in the name of desire
Take ten steps back, Cause I'm ready baby aim and fire
Baby there's no way you gonna run tonight

Ooooh, that's right
Well you've had your way with love
But it's the end of the day
Now a team of wild horses couldn't drag your heart away
So come on baby, come on baby
Come on baby you know there ain't nothing left to say

CHORUS
If you can give it, I can take it
Cause if this heart is gonna break it's gonna take a lot to break it
I know tonight somebody's gonna win the fight
So if you're so tough come on and prove it
Your heart is down for the count and you know you're gonna lose it
tonight you're gonna go down in flames just like Jesse James

If you'll knock me off my feet till I'm flat on the floor

Till my heart is crying Indian and I'm begging for more
So come on baby, come on baby
Come on baby, Come on

Tonight you're gonna go down in flames just like Jesse James
Tonight you're gonna go down in flames just like Jesse James
I'm gonna shoot ya down Jesse James
